A Little About Me

I've been a part of the dance team industry for over 22 years: as a choreographer, coach, director, teacher, judge, and dance competition producer. I have walked the same path as many of you. From starting a dance team program with no resources and very little parent/community support, to building a powerhouse high school dance program that has won 24 national and world championship titles. Somehow I've also found time for balance between concert dance forms and competitive dance team aesthetics. And I know that these two worlds don't always coexist so easily. I've been where you all are!

Quick Bio & Accomplishments

I received my technical dance training at EDGE Performing Arts Center in Hollywood, California. I received a BFA in Film & Television Production at UCLA, followed by an MFA in Arts Education. I left my dance industry career in 2006 to become a performing arts educator.  In 2009, I opened the dance department at Grand Arts High School for the Visual & Performing Arts in downtown Los Angeles (where I worked as a California credentialed dance teacher and served as arts department chair). I eventually started the dance program at Mark Keppel High School (Alhambra, CA) in 2011, where I teach dance full-time to this day.

Here are just some of the other accomplishments that the dance team world has enabled me to achieve:

  • Worked as creative consultant for the opening/closing ceremonies of the 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
  • Executive produced a spectacular celebration for the MDDTUSA 50th golden anniversary national competition in 2017.
  • Directed the dance program at Mark Keppel High School to achieve 24 national championship titles since 2016.
  • Directed and co-choreographed my all male hip hop dance team while they competed on NBC’s “World of Dance” and “America’s Got Talent”.
  • Most recently, I created and produced the world’s first live-streamed Virtual Dance Nationals during the COVID-19 lockdown in an effort to support the dance team community during the pandemic.

Why I Started Dance Team World

Dance Team World is my way of helping our community unite in camaraderie out of respect for all dance programs nationwide. And also in harmony with the many businesses, dance competitions, and event producers which bring so many additional opportunities for our young dancers to grow and learn about themselves through the art form.
